Call to Action

  1. Listen to the MPR story about opposition to the expansion of the Sherburne County detention center.  Leave a comment in support of the protesters and in opposition to the detention center expansion in Sherburne County.
  2. Jury deliberations are underway  regarding the future of Scott Warren of No More Deaths, who faces decades in prison for the “crime” of leaving water and food in the desert for migrants.  Now is the time for all of us who believe  that saving lives should never be criminalized to stand with Scott and No More Deaths.  Visit Nomoredeaths.org to send electronic letters to your Congresspeople and to donate.
  3. Right now, the U.S. government is holding more than 2,500 migrant children in detention in Homestead, Florida.  The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, the American Friends Service Committee and others are calling for a Week of Action to close Homestead and end child detention.  This week, call your Congresspeople and ask them to close Homestead and ensure this never happens again by supporting the Shut Down Child Prison Camps Act (HR 1069 / S 397) and the Families, Not Facilities Act (HR 2217 / S 388). Senator Tina Smith: 651-221-1016; Senator Amy Klobuchar: 612-727-5220. 4. The Sanctuary and Resistance to Injustice (SARI) group has resumed its weekly presence to voice “No ICE expansion in Sherburne County” each Wednesday at 3:30 pm in front of the Sherburne County Government Center.  Please consider joining them in faithful witness.
