June 2018 Vigil

St Joan of Arc will be hosting the June ICOM vigil at the Whipple Federal Courthouse at 7:30 am on Tuesday, June 12.  As you see in the news, the deportation machinery is ramping up in its intensity and cruelty, now intentionally separating children from parents who are seeking asylum.  It’s an important time for people of faith to stand together with our immigrant neighbors.  Attached is a flier for the event that can be distributed to your congregations and networks.

Call to Action

  1. Let your Senators know that separating families is wrong. NETWORK, the Catholic social justice lobby, has set up a toll free number to connect you to your Senators and tell them what your faith says about the policy of separating immigrant children from their parents at the border.  Demand that they act immediately to put an end to this practice and that they support legislation such as the HELP Separated Children Act (S. 2937) and the Keep Families Together Act (S. 3036). Call 1-888-897-9753 to be connected to your Senators now.
  2. Support a detainee’s family.  Armando is a DACA recipient with schizoaffective disorder who has been detained by ICE since December 2017.  His sister and his mother are each working two jobs to pay for legal expenses.  Support this family’s struggle by donating at: www.gofundme.com/HelpArmandoOUT980
  3. Overnight accompaniment. Provide hospitality at a south Minneapolis Sanctuary congregation.  Shifts need to be filled between 10pm-8am Wednesdays through Sundays.  To become one of a network of volunteers, contact Meghan Grossman at meghanm…@yahoo.com.
