Call to Action

  1. Call Congress and Demand a Clean DREAM Act – Despite the popularity of the legislation, a DREAM Act that would provide a pathway to citizenship for thousands of DACA recipients is being held hostage to a white supremacist vision that would endanger refugees, separate families, and incarcerate thousands.  Contact your Congressional delegation now and let them know that any immigration deal must include a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers and must meet our obligations to provide safe haven to refugees and TPS recipients without reducing family-based visas and without spending on wasteful border security measures that endanger people.  Call Sen. Klobuchar at 202-224-3244, Sen. Tina Smith at 202-224-5641, and your Representative (www.gis.leg.mn/iMaps/districts).
  2. Demand Politicians Retract Their Islamophobic Rhetoric – Recent Islamophobic comments about Muslims attending caucus training have unleashed a torrent of threats and hate against some of our neighbors whose only desire was to participate in our democracy.  Call State Representatives Cindy Pugh (651-296-4315) and Kathy Lohmer(651-296-4244) and Hennepin County Commissioner and Gubernatorial Candidate Jeff Johnson (612-348-7887) and let them know that faith-based bigotry has no place in Minnesota state government and that spreading hate speech has life-threatening consequences.
  3. Support a Family Threatened by Deportation – Luis Candela, a husband and father of three and a member of Sembrando Poder and the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee (MIRAC), was taken from his family by ICE on January 17 and is being held in the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River.  His family has been told that he was targeted in response to his public advocacy about abusive practices against immigrant residents of the Oak Grove Mobile Home Park  in New Brighton.  Help his family gather the money needed for him to be released on bond by donating at: www.gofundme.com/get-luis-out-of-ice-custody
